New Delhi, January 11: The Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament will meet on Friday to discuss an old proposal of doubling the salaries of MPs to Rs 1 lakh. Currently, the basic salary of an MP is Rs50,000, with another Rs 45,000 as constituency allowance. Apart from this, an MP is also entitled to a daily allowance of Rs2,000 for attending Parliament and related meetings.
The committee, headed by BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya, has 15 MPs who have already met once since the last session and are set to meet for the second time this Friday. In July 2015, the committee, which was then headed by Yogi Adityanath, had recommended a 100% hike, but the proposal did not move forward.
