Jalandhar, December 17, The local election results re-energises Congress in Punjab as it has won all the civic bodies in the state. The ruling party dominated the Municipal Corporation elections as Congress won 68 wards out of 80 in Jalandhar MC. The Shiromani Akali Dal won 8 seats out of 29 which they were contesting and BJP only managed to bag 6 seats out of 51. On the other hand opposition party in Vidhan Sabha fails to open its account even as none of its candidates make it through to victory. The voter turnout was 58 percent in Jalandhar as people show less interest in local polls. The voting was held for 80 wards of Jalandhar Municipal Corporations on Sunday followed by counting. The announcement of result busted energy in the Congress workers as it has won by a huge margin.
The wife of Sushil Kumar Rinku, MLA Jalandhar west, Sunita Rinku won from ward number 42 and wife of Rajinder Beri, MLA Jalandhar central, Uma Beri also bagged her seat, both are said to be front-runners for the mayoral post in Jalandhar. The Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former senior deputy mayor Kamaljeet Singh Bhatia’s wife Jaspal Kaur Bhatia won from ward number 42 with huge margin. The senior leader of Congress and leader of opposition of the house in last term Jagdish Raja and His wife Anita Raja have won comfortably from their wards.
Congress Jalandhar district president(Urban), Daljit Sing Ahluwalia congratulated all the candidates and thanked voters for supporting Congress. He said The victory has shown that Congress government is working for Punjab that’s why people chose our candidates. He said the reason behind the victory of Congress is policies of Chief Minister Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh. In short period Captain has fulfilled his promises and Congress will continue to do so, he added.
