Chandigarh, 3 September(Wishav Warta): Ending career stagnation among officials of the water supply and sanitation department by ordering promotions at all levels during the one month, Rural Development and Panchayat and Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa today exhorted them to work with total dedication and commitment by adopting pro-people attitude.
He said no decision had been taken in this regard by the previous government despite such promotions being due over the years. He appealed to the officials at every level to provide the best of services to the people and complete the targets assigned to them.
An official spokesman of the department disclosed that three officials have been promoted as chief engineers, seven as superintending engineers, three as executive engineers and 21 as the sub-divisional engineers. These promotions had been held up for more than two years thereby functioning of the department.
He said 24 junior engineers were also being promoted to the next rank within this month. Seventeen SDEs selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission recently have joined the department during the last few days while seven more would be reporting for duty in the coming days. This has enabled the department to streamline its functioning. The department has fixed the target of providing 24-hour water supply and toilets in every house in the villages in a phased manner within a year. Bajwa commended department secretary Jaspreet Talwar and director Ashwani Kumar for resolving problems of the employees within a month by talking to their organisations.
