Gau Sewa commission to summon officials for their laxity towards stray cattle menace


Jalandhar, 23 August(Wishav Warta): Chairman of Punjab State Gau Sewa Commission Keemti Bhagat today said that the Commission would soon summon officers /officials of the state government for their laxity towards dealing with the problem of stray cattle in Punjab. Presiding over a meeting with the officers of the district administration to review the issue of stray cattle in the state, the Chairman said that it was unfortunate that some officers /officials were showing callousness towards this noble cause. He said that the Commission was a statutory body that has been vested with the powers to summon the erring officers /officials. Mr. Bhagat said that the Commission was duty-bound to ensure the well being of cattle in the state and every effort would be made to discharge this duty

The Chairman also asked the Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities to make concerted efforts for dealing with stray cattle menace besides ensuring optimum utilization of the funds collected by the civic body through the levying of Cow cess on nine items. He said that on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh the PSPCL has already released around Rs 2 crore collected from the cow cess to various civic bodies. Mr. Bhagat said that under this the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar has been allotted Rs 80 lakh for recovery van, medicines and fodder for the cattle.

The Chairman also lauded the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Sub Divisional Magistrate (Shahkot) Ms. Navneet Kaur Bal for their exemplary role in development of Kania Kalan Gau Shala near Shahkot. He further said that the officers/
officials across the state should serve the stray cattle in same religious zeal.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Sub Divisional Magistrate (Shahkot) Ms. Navneet Kaur Bal, Joint Commissioner MCJ Mrs. Gurwinder Randhawa, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Mandeep Singh and Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Iqbalpreet Singh.
