Amritsar, December 14: The BJP-SAD combine is banking upon the development projects during the previous regime in the city as the canvassing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation reaches the crescendo. The BJP leaders including Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, former BJP state Chief Kamal Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Shawet Malik, former Minister Anil Joshi and others who had been batting for their party candidates in various wards talked about the Heritage Street at Golden Temple, BRTS project and other development works their previous government undertook.
`The heritage street is one of the best projects undertaken at this scale by any government. Our government gave this project which is delight to the pilgrims and visitors descending upon the city’’, said Chhina as he canvassed for party candidates including Mayor Bakshi Ram arora, Sushil Devegan, Ajaybir Randhawa and others in the city. He said the p[resent Congress government has failed to bring any projects and the works on all the development works is standstill today.
Chhina also blamed the Captain government for misusing the government machinery for the polls as the staff and officials were threatening the people to vote failing which the cases would be registered against them. He said the SAD-BJP has history of waging battle for the public rights and they would continue doing so and would not come under any `official pressure’ from the government.
He said the Congress came into power on false promises made to the people and now the public feel cheated as development seems last on the priority lists of the government. He said only the SAD-BJP can bring all around development to the `holy city. Kamal Sharma also lashed out at the Captain government for befooling the people on false promises and not keeping the polls promises made during the last assembly polls. He said there was unity within the alliance and they were contesting the seats with all vigour despite pressures from the government.
The BJP leaders chided the Congress leaders for the feudalistic culture and adopting the undemocratic ways to threaten the voters with consequences if the votes were not caste in favour of their candidates. “I also apprehend a great deal of rigging in the polls which will be opposed tooth and nail’’, said Chhina adding that the alliance would get votes for their works of the previous government.
