Colombo, 3 September(Wishav Warta): Riding on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s maiden five-wicket haul and Jasprit Bumrah’s 2/45, India restricted Sri Lanka to 238. For hosts, Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews slammed fifties. Another dramatic collapse from Sri Lanka, losing their last 7 wickets for 53 runs. The partnership between Mathews and Thirimanne – Sri Lanka’s highest in the series – had done a decent job of rebuilding the innings from 63/3, but the late acceleration which was so desperately needed, never arrived. Instead, what we got was a middle and lower-order exodus, the kind which we’ve been used to seeing on this tour. It could be a fair argument that both Mathews and Thirimanne took too much time for their fifties. Having done so, one of them should have at least kicked on and stayed till the end. But their dismissals close to each other put too much pressure on the rest. The Indian cricket team will fancy their chances of completing a 5-0 whitewash with the chase.
