New Delhi, 21 September(Wishav Warta): A 21-year-old boy was killed and his friend was severely injured when a car allegedly hit their bike on Monday following an argument with the vehicle’s driver in Safdarjung Enclave. Gurpreet and Maninder Singh had gone near AIIMS for filming a documentary on pavement dwellers in the national capital on Saturday, their families claimed. They were having their dinner when an accused came and started smoking. They tried to stop him for smoking in public place then he started abusing them, family claimed.
They decided to leave the place but accused followed them and hit them with his car near AIIMS. The driver also hit two other vehicles —an autorickshaw and a cab.
Both were rushed to hospital. Gurpreet succumbed to injuries today while the other victim is undergoing treatment at the hospital, police said.
The accused, identified as Rohit Krishna Mahanta, was arrested from the spot, but was later granted bail. He is a student of law. After Gurpreet’s death, the police have added IPC section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder to the FIR. Gurpreet’s family claimed that it was an act of murder and alleged police for not taking strict action against accused.
