Pricipal Secretary Anirudh Tewari exhorts PEDA to promote energy efficiency through district level workshops

Chandigarh, 15 September9Wishav Warta): The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), the State Designated Agency for promotion of energy efficiency & energy conservation in Punjab, organized Workshop-cum-Exhibition on energy efficient building materials / appliances here today at PEDA Auditorium, Sector 33-D. Today being the PEDA Foundation Day and Engineer’s Day was chosen for the above important event from the point of view of Energy & Environment. The exhibition on different construction materials/appliances saw more than 150 Architects, Design Professionals, Engineers and Builder’s participating and showing interest in the exhibited energy efficient building materials.

Disclosing this, an official spokesman said that while inaugurating the Workshop-cum-Exhibition on Energy Efficient Building Materials, Anirudh Tewari, Principal Secretary, Department of New & Renewable Energy Sources, Punjab, emphasized upon the benefits of the Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) which has been notified and made mandatory for buildings having connected load of 100 kW and above, for construction of new buildings and saving of 30-40% electricity consumption as compared to the conventional buildings. He asked Architecture Department to use energy efficient building materials and design ECBC complaint building at least each in every district. Mr. Tewari suggested to PEDA to organize such workshops at district levels to promote energy efficiency in the building sector.

The spokesman further divulged that the Department of Local Government has issued notification for “The Punjab Municipal Green Building Intensive Policy 2016” and provided incentive of 15% rebate in property tax for Punjab ECBC Compliant buildings. In addition, they have provided 5% extra Floor Area Ratio (FAR) free of cost for construction of GRIHA, IGBC and LEED Green Buildings. Common Building Bye Laws 2017 have been drafted by the Department of Housing & Urban Development including provision of Punjab ECBC and Renewable Energy Systems.

In his address, the Chief Executive, PEDA informed that PEDA is facilitating all the stakeholders through organizing capacity building programs and interactive sessions through ECBC Cell created in PEDA office for implementation of Punjab ECBC. More than 800 Private / Government Architects, Engineers and Builders have been sensitized about the energy efficient materials and its use for construction of Punjab ECBC complaint buildings.

On the occasion, Ms. Sapna, Chief Architect Punjab, Ms. Shabnam Bassi, Fellow, TERI, P.S. Saini, Superintending Hospital Engineer, PGI, Surinder Bahga from IIA, Sh. Jit Gupta, Chairman (IGBC Chandigarh Chapter) and Executive Director, PEDA also addressed the gathering.
