Chandigarh, 15 September(Wishav Warta): In a statement issued here today, the Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira urged Capt. Amarinder Singh CM, to make the Justice Mehtab Singh Gill Commission a permanent feature in Punjab, particularly in view of unending complaints of political witch hunt by all opposition parties. Khaira said that such a commission can act as a deterrent to prevent cases being filed by the police under political vendetta, now by Minister’s and MLA’s of the ruling Congress party.

Khaira appreciated the impartial work being carried out by Justice Mehtab Singh Gill, by taking to task those police officers who registered false cases against innocent people under political pressure, during the last 10 years of SAD-BJP misrule. As reported today, more than 4,000 complaints of political vendetta have reached the Gill Commission, of which 70 percent of those processed till now have been found to be false. Justice Gill has recommended criminal action against many police officers u/s 182 of the IPC for falsely framing people, besides dismissal of certain police officers u/s 311 of the IPC. There is not an iota of doubt, that the Badal government had grossly politicized the police force in the state, due to which police acted as a private army of the Akali leaders. Thousands of false criminal cases were slapped against the political opponents of the Akali leaders, in order to intimidate them and gag their voice, said Khaira.

Khaira said he himself was a victim of the ire of Badal family who slapped six false cases against him, as soon as he became a vociferous MLA. He said none of the six false cases stood the scrutiny of law and all the false FIR’s against him were quashed by the High Court of Punjab and Haryana. He said so was the case of LIP leaders Bains brothers, who were repeatedly, detained in false cases by the Badal family through their police agents.

Khaira said that the law and order situation in Punjab is no better than the Akali rule and the police have embarked upon the same villainous role to falsely frame political opponents of Capt. Amarinder Singh and his Congress cronies. A lot of hue and cry has been raised from different parts of Punjab, accusing the Congress government of political vendetta. Political murders in Ferozepur, Amritsar etc. have been reported, while the police have acted as a mute spectator due to political pressure. AAP workers have been terrorized by the Congress leaders in Gurdaspur and Majha region, due to which he had to meet the DGP Punjab many times, said Khaira.

It is pertinent to mention here, that not all poor people can afford costly justice through courts particularly the High Court. Therefore, Khaira has demanded that the Gill Commission or a political vendetta commission should be permanently notified, so that it can act as a buffer between the police and the costly courts of law, to prevent political witch hunt by the ruling party government.
