Chandigarh October 20: The Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh V.P. Singh Badnore visited the Senior Citizens Home in Sector 15 Chandigarh today and celebrated the Diwali with the inmates.
Addressing the inmates and Day Care Residents of the Senior Citizens’ Home, the Governor said that it was a satisfying experience for him for having spent time with them and interacted with the senior citizens. He emphasised on the need of cultivating herbal and organic plantation especially in the in-house kitchen garden of the Senior Citizens’ Home so that the vegetables they get are free from the pesticides.
Taking good care of the aged is like visiting a pilgrimage, he said. The younger generations must be taught not only to respect elders but also to spend quality time with them. Children learn a lot with this king of interaction with the elders, added the Governor.
Earlier, the Governor inspected the premises of Senior Citizens’ Home and interacted with the inmates. He was apprised by the Director Social Welfare Nishu Singhal about various facilities being extended to the residents by the department. He directed the management to ensure cleanliness and providing quality diet to the residents. He said that environment in such institutions should be cordial and friendly for the well-being of the aged.
Later, the Governor distributed sweets and other gifts to 28 inmates of the Home. Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included the Secretary Social Welfare K.K. Jindal along with the officers of the department.
