Jalandhar, 19 August(Wishav Warta): Exhorting the girls to empower themselves by attaining education, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that it was the most important tool to end the disturbing trend of exploitation of women.
Interacting with the students of BD Girls College during a function organized by the NGO Udaan here today, the Deputy Commissioner evoked the examples of late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry Mrs. Kiran Bedi, Astronaut late Ms. Kalpana Chawla and others to apprise the students about the significance of education. He said that had our visionary first Prime Minister Mr. Jawahar Lal Nehru failed to provide her daughter Mrs. Indira Gandhi quality education, then India would not have got a great Prime Minister.
The Deputy Commissioner said that now due to the concerted efforts of the state and the centre government the light of education has spread to every nook and corner of the country, which has immensely benefitted the girls thereby paving way for their empowerment. He said that though about hundreds of kilometers beyond the Wagah Border girls like Malaala were facing bomb threats for their struggle to teach their peers but in India the education has reached in every family’s reach due to which our girls have proved their mettle in every field. Mr. Sharma said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us that in academic and other fields girls have outshined boys adding that 70-80% topper in result of Universities and Board examination were girld.
The Deputy Commissioner called upon the girls to attain education with focused attention not only for creating their identity but also for becoming a lighthouse for others. He also lauded the organizers for hosting this event.
