New Delhi: A Delhi cop’s son allegedly seen slapping and kicking a woman after knocking her to the ground in a video that has gone viral on social media was arrested on Friday, police said.
Police have registered a case against the Rohit Choudhary, son of a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector, a complaint was filed by another girl, who alleged harassment and threats by him and his father, shared the video of the assault.
The girl seen targeted in a viral video was traced and convinced to file a case against him at the Uttam Nagar police station.
According to police, a woman had filed a case against Choudhury at the Tilak Nagar police station on September 11, accusing him of harassing and threatening her and her family if he did not marry her. The woman, who said she was friends with Choudhary but had broken up since, said he had again approached her to resume the relationship.
When she approached his father, he also threatened her, she alleged.
Police had registered a case under preventive sections of the Criminal Procedure Code and arrested Choudhury. However since the provision was bailable, he was released.
The woman subsequently again approached the police, alleging that Choudhury was again threatening her and her family. She had also shared the video of the woman being beaten.
As the video went viral, Union home minister Rajnath Singh Friday directed Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take necessary action.
“I have taken note of a video where a youth has been seen severely beating a woman. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard,” Singh tweeted.
