Jalandhar, 21 August(Wishav Warta): Giving a clarion call for changing the mindset of people towards the position of women in society, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that it was the need of the hour for making India a frontrunner country in the world. Addressing the gathering during a seminar ‘Laado Dhi’ organised by Alfa Mahendru foundation here at Lyallpur Khalsa college for Women, the Deputy Commissioner said that India was moving in a right direction for empowerment of women by offering number of educational
opportunities. Citing the example, he said that 100 years ago the first graduate girl from the region was big news for us but now girls were scripting new success stories in every field. Mr. Sharma said that though this emerging trend was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us but still a lot of more things need to be done for ensuring safety and security of girl child. The Deputy Commissioner said that these efforts further needs to be sustained so that India could emerge as a progressive nation. Sharma said that women empowerment was all the more important for development of the country and prosperity of its people. He said that this would be really helpful for transforming the destiny of the country in general and that of women in particular.
Lauding the role of NGOs in spreading the message of Government’s flagship program ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao in every nook and corner of the country, the Deputy Commissioner said that it has created a lot of awareness amongst the people. He also lauded the persistent efforts made by the management of Lyallpur Khalsa College for women to impart quality education to the girls.
