Jalandhar, 25 September(Wishav Warta): In order to disseminate the message of cleanliness and good health in every nook and corner of the district, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today flagged off awareness vans –‘Swachtha Rath’, to make the people aware for this noble cause.
Interacting with the media persons after flagging off the vans, the Deputy Commissioner said that the prime motive was to make the ‘national sanitation campaign- Swachtha Hi Sewa’ a mass movement. He said that these vans would cover all the 900 villages and towns in the district in the coming days so as to ensure that the message of hygiene and good health was spread amongst the people. Sharma said that it was all the more important to ensure that people were sensitized towards the need for making our environment clean, green and open defecation free.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the campaign assumes a lot of significance as this fortnight long program was aimed at awakening the people about cleanliness of their surrounding areas. Sharma called upon the people to be a part of this campaign as no such effort could be successful without active support and cooperation of people. He also urged the people to come forward for making the state open defecation free.
The Deputy Commissioner said that it was the dream of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make state clean and open defecation free. He said that the district administration was making concerted efforts to ensure that no stone was left unturned for this noble cause.
Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhupinder Singh, Excecutive Engineer KS Saini and Sub Divsional Officer Gagan Deep Singh Walia.
