Jalandhar, December 22: Traffic bottlenecks on the National Highway Number-I, between Rama Mandi and PAP Chowk, would be soon a thing of past as the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha today asked the representatives of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and SOMA company to finish the work at the earliest.
Both Sharma and Sinha along with the officers of Indian Army and representatives of SOMA and NHAI inspected the ongoing work on the project. The officers asked the SOMA company to speed up the work especially on Army Barracks within the Army cantonment, so that the rest work could also be completed. They said that the widening of NH-I from near the Rama Mandi chowk was all the most important to ensure that the commuters do not face any sort of problem.
Likewise, they were of the opinion that the shifting of the tanks near Vajra Dwar from main road to inside the gate, was all the more important so that traffic bottleneck from that point could be removed. Both the officers asked the NHAI and SOMA company to ensure that this work was completed at the earliest, so that people could get a major relief. Mr. Sharma and Mr. Sinha said that the completion of this would project would streamline the traffic in city thereby giving much respite to the people from traffic bottleneck being created on NH-1.
They further said that any sort of laxity in completion of this ambitious project was totally intolerable as already the project has lingered on since long. In wake of the congestion of traffic near PAP chowk during the peak hours of traffic, both the officers also asked the NHAI and SOMA company to construct two new slip roads one from PAP Chowk towards Amritsar and other from the chowk towards Rama Mandi for facilitating the movement of traffic.
