Amritsar: BJP senior leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today hailed the announcement by Centre’s Modi government to start construction of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara Corridor on the Indian side of the international border. He said the NDA government has fulfilled the long pending demand of the Sikhs as the devotees would freely pay obeisance at the Gurdwara on Pakistan side where Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent his last years of age.
In a press statement issued here, Chhina said he hoped that the construction of the Kartarpur corridor would soon start and Pakistan will also take up the project on their side. The Indian government will build the `protected way’ for the pilgrims from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district to the border while Pakistan will take up the corridor further to the shrine which is more than two kilometers inside the neighbouring country.
The Sikhs pray daily to freely pay obeisance at the shrines in Pakmistan. Their prayers had been answered”, said eh thanking Priome Minister Narendra Modi, Union Fina nce Minister Arun Jaitley and Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The way will facilitate the visit by Indian pilgrims to the holy Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, where Guru Nanak spent his last 18 years, said Chhina.
Chhina said Arun Jaitley himself had visited the Dera Baba Nanak when he held the port folio of Union Minister of Defence and took stock of the situation then. “ Arun Jaitley knew the importance of such a corridor and how Sikh devotees had been demanding the same for the last over three decades”, said Cahina adding that devotees throng the Indian side daily and gets glimpses of the holy shrine through telescope.
