Tripura: The BJP has taken an upper hand against the CPI(M) in Left bastion Tripura. The BJP has brought to a close the 25-year-long communist rule in Tripura and ended the uninterrupted 20-year long stint of Manik Sarkar as the chief minister. The Left’s castle falls in Tripura after 25 years. The BJP is now leading in 41 seats in Tripura even as the Left is ahead in 18 seats.
Also in the process, the BJP, which already rules 19 of 29 states, looks set to extend its saffron blanket to the northeast, having already got Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh in its kitty.
The BJP’s alliance with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is proving to be a winning strategy as the tie-up helped outreach among the tribal community that makes up 31 percent of the state’s population.
