*Chandigarh, July 6( Wishavwarta)-The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has vehemently condemned the registration of cases against the unemployed DPE teachers staging a protest outside the residence of state Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla in Sangrur, on the charge of violating Covid-19 safety guidelines. They were protesting in order to increase the number of posts, strictly adhering to the corona guidelines, terming it as an act of highhandedness on part of the Captain government.
In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Monday, party legislators with teaching background, including state core committee chairman Principal Budhram, chief spokesperson Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Deputy Leader of Opposition Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke and spokesman saster Baldev Singh (all MLAs) alleged that Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla, instead of fulfilling the Congress government’s poll promise of ‘ghar-ghar-naukri’ to educated and deserving youth in the state, qualified unemployed DPE teachers were being targeted in his own hometown Sangrur, on the charge of violating corona guidelines even as they were staging a peaceful protest in tandem with the requisite Covid-19 safety guidelines, like maintaining social distance and wearing masks. They alleged that, on the other hand, the Congress leaders staging a protest against the Center in Sangrur by throwing all safety protocols to the winds were exempted and no case was registered against them.
Principal Budhram said that the Capt. Amarinder Singh government had always been maintaining double standards when it came to dealing with the general public and the patronized few, which, in democratic parlance was called the ‘law of jungle’, which was quite rampant in the state.
Prof. Baljinder Kaur and Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke on the occasion said Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla was running the education department like an illiterate and inexperienced person, knowing a little about the social status of a teacher, which was why, instead of addressing their issues and concerns, he had run-ins with the protesting teachers, using off-putting language even in the presence of female teachers and filing bogus cases against them.
Master Baldev Singh said that Punjab Education Department did not need a stubborn and overbearing Education Minister like Vijayinder Singla, but a way more sensible minister who could bring back the consistently falling standards of school education back on the track.
The AAP leaders demanded immediate withdrawal of cases filed against the teachers and the dismissal of Education Minister Singla, terming him as the ‘failed’ Education Minister the state ever saw in the past.
