Chandigarh December 21: State Vigilance Bureau today arrested a private person for demanding and accepting protection money from a shopkeeper to run his food joint without any interruption.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of VB said acase FIR no. 10 dated 21.12.2018 under section 7 (A) of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against a private person Jaspreet Singh of village Padol, SAS Nagar for demanding Rs 6000 as protection money from complainant Subhash Singh of village Nayagaon, SAS Nagar.
He added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that Jaspreet Singh was demanding money from him for allowing to run his business of fast food/sweet shop uninterrupted by ensuring that no official of health department/civil surgeon office would take his food samples for testing. However later the deal was struck at Rs 3000.
After verifying his complaint the VB team laid a trap and accused Jaspreet Singh was caught red handed accepting Rs 3000 as bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. Further investigation was in progress regarding the connivance or role of any official of health Dept. Punjab and Civil Surgeon office, SAS Nagar.
