Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said Congress minister Tript Rajinder Bajwa had proved that the earlier UPA government had prevailed upon the CBI to put up a weak defence to allow Gandhi favourite and 1984 genocide culprit Sajjan Kumar to go scot free in 2013 and now the party must come clean and explain the support extended to Sajjan as well as all other ’84 mass carnage perpetrators.
In a statement here, SAD mp Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said before coming out with statements dictated by his masters voice – chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the minister should explain how out of six accused in a 1984 case five were convicted and only Sajjan was acquitted in 2013 during UPA rule. He said in the same case, involving mass murder of five Sikhs, Sajjan was awarded life imprisonment under NDA tenure recently. “Doesn’t this prove that the Congress party and the Gandhi family forced the CBI to go soft on Sajjan or else he would have got life imprisonment or even death sentence in 2013 itself?”
Prof Chandumajra said Tript Bajwa’s statement taking credit for the ultimate conviction of Sajjan Kumar was also proof of how the Congress party was trying to befool the Sikhs masses on this sensitive issue. “It seems you want to create a smokescreen to deflect attention from the fact that even the courts have indicted your party for providing political patronage to the massacre perpetrators and helping them to escape the law. This is also in line with the line taken by Congress president Rahul Gandhi who recently tried to mislead the Sikh community by claiming that no Congressman was involved in the 1984 carnage”.
Asking Tript Bajwa to set his own house in order first, Prof Chandumajra said though it would be asking too much from the minister, but he should first ask chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh as to why he was defending ’84 culprit Jagdish Tytler. He said Capt Amarinder had repeatedly given a clean chit to Tytler despite the fact that the case against him was in court and there was material evidence to link him with mass murders. “Shouldn’t you first ask your CM to stop supporting Tytler before trying to take any false credit?” he asked.
The Akali mp said Tript Bajwa should also enlighten the Sikh community as to why a case was filed against Sajjan Kumar on the recommendations of the Justice GT Nanavati Commission in 2005 during the Prime Ministership of Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “Why didn’t successive Congress governments earlier lift a finger to take action against Sajjan? Now when decisive action has been taken under NDA tenure and even SIT has been formed which has reopened cases closed by the Congress you have become frustrated and don’t want to give due credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This does not behove any responsible politician. Please first ask your chief minister to withdraw the patronage extended to Tytler. Also ask Rahul Gandhi to expel Tytler and remove Kamal Nath as chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. Then take credit for these steps”, Prof Chandumajra advised Tript Bajwa.
