Chandigarh, January 17: Punjab Rural Development & Panchayat Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh condoled the sudden demise of former Minister and ex-chief secretary of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Manjit Singh Calcutta who breathed his last in a private hospital this morning at Amritsar.
In a press statement, Bajwa said that besides being an able administrator and entrepreneur, Manjit Singh Calcutta was an original Sikh Scholar, Educationist and a Panthic leader. He very effectively led Sikh institutions and the SGPC in very turbulent times. The minister said that S. Calcutta would be remembered forever for his great contribution as higher education minister during his short stint.
In a heartfelt sympathy message to the bereaved family, Bajwa said that with the demise of S. Calcutta irreparable loss had been caused not only to the family but also to Punjab especially the Sikh community. He prayed to Almighty for giving strength to the bereaved family and eternal peace to the departed soul.
In his condolence message, Rana Gurjeet Singh remembered the contributions ofCalcutta as Minister for higher education. He said that Calcutta would also be remembered for his services as Chief Secretary of SGPC. Rana Gurjeet Singh shared his heartfelt sympathy with bereaved family and prayed to God almighty to give peace to the departed soul.
