Jalandhar, January 23: In order to keep a better check over the mid-day meal in the state, the Human Resource Development Ministry has decided to conduct a social audit of the scheme in all the districts of the state.
Divulging the details, Special Consultant of the Ministry and Head of the team visiting the state on two days tour KK Sharma said that the purpose of the social audit was to ensure that the scheme was implemented efficaciously without any hindrance. He said that already social audit has been experimented in the districts of Ropar and Sangrur in state where the team of Ministry had randomly asked the villagers, parents, teachers, students and other stakeholders about the scheme.
Sharma the experiment was very fruitful as they were able to get the feedback about the scheme from the ground root level. The Consultant said that now this social audit would be replicated in the entire state to get more feedback about the entire state. He said that besides this social audit sampling was also done by the Ministry to check the quality of food being served to the students. Expressing satisfaction over quality of food served to the students in state, Sharma reiterated that quality in Punjab was far better than other states adding that last year around 70 samples from the state were taken and all of them were passed in the laboratory.
The Consultant said that the team was entrusted with the job to ensure proper implementation of mid-day meal scheme along with proper quality and quantity of the food served to the students. He said that during their two days visit in the district the team had visited more than 30 schools to check the quality of mid-day meal. Sharma said that today the team had visited Girls School Adarsh Nagar, Devi Sahai School Basti Nau, Arya Kanya Senior, Gandhi Vineeta Ashram School, PAP School, Government School Adampur, Government School Dhanowali and others.
