Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Local Bodies minister Navjot Sidhu to explain why his actions were being welcomed by AAP and why he was collaborating with opposition leader Sukhpal Khaira and Lok Insaaf Party to destabilize the Congress government.
In a statement here, former minister and party spokesman Maheshinder Singh Grewal said “we can understand the frustration of AAP and why it is welcoming Sidhu into its fold. But Navjot Sidhu should explain why he has started romancing AAP and the Bains brothers immediately after his honeymoon with the Congress has turned sour”.
Stating that Navjot Sidhu had always shown power hunger, the SAD leader said in the past also Sidhu has dropped one party to join another to fulfill his political aspirations. “It seems he now feels he won’t be able to achieve his ends in the Congress party and has started making new combinations”.
Speaking about the public tamasha being done by Sidhu, the SAD leader said if the Local Bodies minister had any grouse he should air it with Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Asking Sidhu to explain why he was wasting the people’s time by discussing internal matters of the party in public, Mr Grewal said Sidhu’s duty was only to announce dates for the Corporation elections. “The decision on who is to be the Mayor is that of the party. Rahul Gandhi himself took this decision. Why doesn’t Sidhu ask Rahul why he was not involved in taking this decison? After all Sidhu has held Rahul Gandhi to be a visionary. Surely a visionary must have decided on the appointments of Mayors after due thought and diligence? Does Sidhu think Rahul lacks vision now because decision not in favour of his aaya ram gaya ram candidate for Mayor post”.
Asserting that Sidhu was resorting to tantrums because he had been thwarted from having his say in the appointment of Mayors of Corporations, the Akali leader said this was nothing new. “Earlier also Sidhu has always resorted to blackmail to have his say in the BJP. Now he is playing the same game and even instigating Congress councilors to revolt against the party. This shows he is with the Congress only till he can rule the roost. This incident has revealed his true character of being a thoroughbred opportunist who will not stoop to any level to achieve his goals”.
