Punjab to witness student union elections after 33 years

Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Tuesday allows student union elections in the state after 33 years. These elections were stopped after the 1984 riots, so this will be the first time after that Punjab will witness student union elections. The elections would be conducted in the “next academic session. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today in Vidhan Sabha announced to allow Students Union elections in Punjab.

Captain was speaking on the thanks giving resolution presented on the governor’s address. He said that Congress had promised to allow these elections. Later, talking to media persons outside the house, CM said the decision would be implemented in all the universities and the colleges from the coming academic year.
