Chandigarh, January 12: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, while extending greetings on the joyous festival of Lohri, called upon the people to dedicate this occasion to the cause of Girl Child and renew their resolve to work with sincerity and commitment for eradication of unethical practice of female foeticide and child abuse, the major issues of societal concern these days.
The Governor said that another area, which has a great relevance connected with this festival of fun and fire, is the need to preserve and protect our environment by making Lohri, pollution free and observing scientific guidelines for the burning of firewood and other material.
The Governor appealed to the people to celebrate this festival collectively, in a traditional spirit of harmony, goodwill peace and togetherness. “Let this occasion of festivities bring cheers and happiness to all and inaugurate a new era of gender equality and care for the economy”, he added.
Meanwhile, paying rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his 154th birth anniversary today, observed as the National Youth Day, Sh. Badnore called upon the people in general and youth in particular to keep drawing inspiration from the powerful teachings of Swami Vivekananda and contribute abundantly in evolving a strong, united and progressive society.
