Punjab Budget session starts today, opposition parties plans to corner govt

Chandigarh: The budget session of the Punjab Assembly, commencing here on Tuesday, is likely to be a stormy affair with the opposition AAP and SAD plans to corner the Congress government over several issues, including farmers suicides, unemployment and drug trade. The session will begin today from March 20, which will be held till March 28. During this, the budget for 2018-19 is likely to be presented in the house on March 24.

The Schedule 

The session will begin with the Governor’s address in the Vidhan Sabha followed by obituaries to prominent people who passed away recently. The Governor’s speech will be held at 11 am.  There will be two sessions on the first day. A resolution of thanksgiving on the Governor’s speech will be presented on March 21, after which it will be discussed. The debate on this resolution will be held on next two days.

There will be no ceremony due to martyrdom day of Martyr Bhagat Singh on March 23.
Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year 2016-17 (Civil, Commercial), Financial Statements of the year 2016-17 and the Annual Account Declaration of the year 2016-17 likely to be presented on March 24 at 10 am in the House.

Supplementary demands for grants for the year 2017-18, balanced bill for supplementary demands for the year 2017-18, and budget estimates for the year 2018-19 will also be presented on March 24.

Debate on budget estimates will begin at two o’clock on March 26 and it will continue on the next day as well.

Debate and voting on the budget estimates for 2018-19 budgets and legislative work will be on March 28. After this the House will be suspended for indefinitely.
