Chandigarh: The Punjab Bridge Association (PBA) is organizing 7th Steel Strips Group National Bridge Championship (under the aegis of Bridge Federation of India) from 13th-15thApril, 2018 at the Aroma Hotel.
Disclosing this here today during a press briefing, K.R. Lakhanpal (Former Chief Secretary, Punjab and the President of Punjab Bridge Association) said that the championship would attract National level players from Punjab/Haryana/Chandigarh/Himachal Pradesh/Uttrakhand/Rajasthan/UP/Mumbai/Kolkata and Delhi. He lauded the efforts of R.K. Garg (Chairman of Steel Strips Group and sponsor), Viswajeet Khanna Additional Chief Secretary (Development) and the Vice President of Punjab Bridge Association besides other officials of the association for their untiring efforts in promoting the game.
Lakhanpal further said that the championship would be conducted with all the latest technical aspects of the game such as machine dealt boards, bridge-mates, and fully computerized scoring and draws which would lend a new technological edge to the championship. He further said that the game would also test the psychological toughness of the players.
Regarding the playing format, Lakhanpal said that the championship would begin with team of four event and there would be 7 rounds of 10 board matches after which the top 7 teams along with the best Punjab Bridge Association team would qualify for the super league. In the super league the qualifying teams would play an all play all super league constituting 7 rounds of 10 board matches. The players from the non-qualified teams would participate in a 3 session match point open pairs event.
