Jalandhar, 22 September(Wishav Warta): Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that banks must play a proactive role in opening new vistas of self-employment for the skilled youth by extending loans to them besides ensuring the welfare of weaker and underprivileged sections of the society.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a branch of Syndicate Bank here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that the banks must make concerted efforts to extend easy loans to the skilled persons so that they could live life with dignity and pride. He said that such efforts would help in opening new avenues for self-employment for the skilled youth besides boosting the economic growth of the country. Sharma said that such efforts were the need of the hour to make India a progressive and front ranking country in the world.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that the banks could play a leading role in transforming the destiny of weaker and underprivileged sections by extending a helping hand to them. Sharma said that easy loans to this stratum of society would act as a catalyst to ameliorate the lot of poor and disadvantaged sections. He underscored the need to provide these loans at nominal rates which would not only ensure the financial empowerment of the poor.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the very intent and purpose behind the concept of nationalization of banking sector could only be served meaningfully provided majority of economically deprived sections of society were propelled towards financial inclusion. He also said that banks should motivate the customers and general public to adopt modes of digital payments mode like Bhim App, M-banking, E-banking and others to promote digital payments.
On the occasion, the Regional Manager of the bank Rakesh Nainwal highlighted the achievements of the bank. He said that the bank has been serving the country from last more than 100 years with utmost dedication and commitment.
Earlier, the branch manager Kamaljeet Kaur and Director RUDSET Jagdish Lal welcomed the Deputy Commissioner to the bank.
