Jalandhar(Wishav Warta): The State Election Commission (SEC) has fixed the time between 11 am to 3 pm for filing the nominations in the elections of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) and four Municipal Committees of Jalandhar district viz. Bilga, Nurmahal, Bhogpur and Shahkot scheduled to take place on December 17.
Divulging the details Deputy Commissioner cum Chief Electoral Officer Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that in pursuance of the provisions contained in Section 35 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994 (Punjab Act No.19 of 1994), the State Election Commission, Punjab has decided that nominations would be filed from December 2-6 between 11 am to 3 pm. He further said that the scrutiny of the nominations would be held on December 7 and candidates could withdraw their nominations by December 8. Sharma further said that polling for the civic bodies would take place of December 17 from 8.00 AM to 4.00 PM.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that in accordance with the instructions contained in the Presiding Officers Diary instruction 69, all electors present at the Polling Station at the hour of the close of poll would be entitled to cast their votes. He said that counting of votes would take place after the close of poll on the polling station itself. Sharma further said that in pursuance of Rule 74 (2) of the Punjab Municipal Election Rules, 1994, the State Election Commission has designated the Presiding Officers of the concerned Polling Station/Booth in Municipal Corporation and four Municipal Councils polls as to be Assistant Returning Officers for the purpose of counting of votes in respect of general elections to be held on December 17.
