Says government must accept 4-point agenda repealing the anti-farmer black laws
Asks to stop dilly-dallying tactics, government sleeping over farmers’ issue, should wake from its slumber
Chandigarh, December 27 ( WISHAVWARTA)Reacting to the decision of farmers’ organisations to resume talks with the centre government on the farm laws issue on December 29, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and MP Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government should end the farmers’ stalemate and take the talks with the farmers’ delegation seriously. In a press statement issued from the party headquarters, Mann said that the centre government should take steps towards resolving the deadlock over the anti-farmer black laws and listen to the legitimate demands of the ‘annadatas’ at the earliest.
“The farmers’ have decided to resume talks with the government, but is the government ready to listen to them. They should listen to the farmers and must immediately accept the 4-point agenda repealing of the central farm laws, provisions to guarantee purchase on MSP, exclusion of farmers from the penalties as per Air Quality Management in NCR, and changes in the Electricity Amendment Bill,” he said. Mann further said that already five rounds of talks with the government had failed to yield any result as the ruthlessly insensitive Modi-led central government was unmoved by the pitiable plight of the farming fraternity. He said that it was a high time for the Modi government to listen to the voice of lakhs of farmers who were fighting for their survival on the Delhi borders, and should lend their ears for a patient hearing.
“The stand of AAP is well-known. The party stands shoulder to shoulder with the farmers in their struggle. We want the government to atone for their complete lack of consultation with the farmers before passing these anti-farmer black laws and make a serious effort to address their reasonable concerns. No one wants the deadlock to continue and see the farmers suffering in severe cold. The PM should stop turning a blind eye on the farmers’ issue and should take an urgent call on the same,” said Mann. The voice of lakh of farmers raised by AAP MPs Bhagwant Mann and Sanjay Singh, on Friday, in the Parliament had not fallen on the deaf ears of PM Modi, as he left the venue.
Mann said that AAP had been trying to wake up the Modi-led-centre government from its slumber, who are ‘sleeping over’ the issue of anti-farmers black laws. He said that many meetings had been held since the inception of farmers’ movement and the government was playing the ‘game of letters’, but it was very unfortunate that the issue pertaining to farmers’ was not redressed yet. “This is because there are flaws in the intentions and policies of the Modi government. PM Modi does not have time to meet lakh of farmers sitting on the Delhi borders since last month, but can do online interactions with farmers of other states,” added Mann.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, Mann further said that today when the farmers of the country were agitating for their rights on the Delhi borders, PM Modi was acting as a mediator of corporate houses and peddling lies about the farmers’ genuine demands. “Modi government should abandon its stubborn stance and accede to the demands and immediately reverse the draconian laws aimed at benefiting the corporate houses,” he added.
