Patna: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav surrendered in Jharkhand’s Ranchi today, days after a court refused to extend his parole. The former Bihar Chief Minister, jailed for corruption last year, had been out on bail since May. “I am following the court’s order. I am unwell but I have faith in the high court verdict,” said the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief.
Lalu Yadav was jailed in December for three-and-a-half years after being convicted in a multi-million-rupee scam involving the embezzlement of government funds in Bihar meant for cattle fodder in the 1990s when he was chief minister of undivided Bihar.
The 70-year-old had asked for a three-month extension of his parole saying he needed treatment for anal abscess, kidney stone and enlarged prostate glands. But the Jharkhand High Court rejected it and ordered him to return to jail by today.
