Jalandhar: On the momentous occasion of Republic Day Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Rana KP Singh today inaugurated two flagship schemes of the state government in Jalandhar.
After hoisting the flag at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium during the Republic Day celebrations, the Speaker flagged off five motor bikes to mark the launch of ‘Apni Gaddi, Apna Rozgar’ under the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Employment Generation scheme. These bike taxis under the scheme was aimed at generating jobs for the state’s unemployed youth. Besides job creation, to which the Captain Amarinder government was committed, this initiative would encourage youth to engage in entrepreneurial business, while facilitating last-mile connectivity for commuters.
Meanwhile, handing over the cheques of financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries under Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY) to 45 eligible beneficieries, the Speaker envisioned that it would act as a catalyst in ensuring the holistic development of all sections of society in the rural areas of state. The sole motive of this flagship scheme of state government was to ensure that the needy people could get the benefits of pro-poorschemes of the government. Under the scheme all debt ridden farmers, families with woman as head of family, the families who have lost their only bread earner, families with members suffering from serious ailments like cancer, families of Army martyrs, kin of freedom fighters, homeless families, school dropout children, families with specially able children, distressed old age people, drug addicts, families in problem due to natural disasters, unemployed youth above 18 years, children with malnutrition, sanitary workers, orphan children, transgender, acid attack victims, families living in slums and others were eligible to avail its benefits. For availing the benefits of scheme the income of family must not be above Rs 60,000 annually and the family should not possess more than 2.5 acre of land and the beneficiaries must be compulsorily a resident of thestate.
