Chandigarh, 7 October(wishav warta): Sukhpal Singh Khaira Leader of Opposition written an open letter to Jathedar Shri Akal Takhat sahib demanding to excommunicate Akali leader Bibi Jagir Kaur from Sikh Panth.
Khaira brings case of Bibi Jagir Kaur ex-President SGPC in notice of Akal Takhat Sahib, he says she has been convicted to 5 years rigorous imprisonment by a special CBI court of Patiala in 2012 in the infamous Harpreet Murder case. As we are aware, Harpreet Kaur daughter of Bibi Jagir Kaur had died in mischievous circumstances in the year 2000. Despite repeated complaints by one Kamaljit Singh resident of her native village Begowal who claimed to be the husband of Bibi Jagir Kaur’s daughter, no FIR was registered against her as she wielded immense influence upon the then Badal government being the President of SGPC. The complainant Kamaljit Singh then approached the High Court of Punjab and Haryana who ordered a CBI inquiry into the murder of Harpreet Kaur, says Khaira.
After a prolonged trial in the special CBI court at Patiala, Bibi Jagir Kaur and other accused were convicted to 5 years imprisonment. Although she was acquitted of the murder charges but the court held her guilty of aborting the foetus of her daughter Harpreet Kaur besides forceful confinement and kidnapping. Needless to mention, forcefully aborting a foetus is a heinous crime according to Sikh tenets known as “Narri-Maar”, which is a “Bajjar-Quraiht” (unpardonable sin) .
It is a matter of record, that Bibi Jagir Kaur was arrested and sent to judicial custody of 6 months in the year 2012 and is currently on bail. She has filed an appeal in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, wherein her conviction has not been stayed despite repeated attempts up till the Supreme Court of India. As a result of this conviction she was disqualified to fight the assembly elections of 2017 in accordance with the law passed by the Lok Sabha and the Supreme Court of India against criminal politicians.
But it is surprising and astonishing that she continues to be the member of SGPC, the august body of Sikh community. The SGPC should have also disqualified her the moment she was convicted for 5 years. I am sorry to state that because the SGPC President is a nominee of the Badal family, he has failed to perform his duty to cleanse the glorious body of such a convicted criminal. Kahira says he is happy to note that you have excommunicated Sucha Singh Langah the former Akali leader from the Sikh Panth merely on the registration of a FIR in a rape case against him, it would be blatant double standards and gross partiality if Bibi Jagir Kaur is not immediately excommunicated from the Sikh Panth and removed as member from the SGPC, as she stands convicted to 5 year rigorous imprisonment without any relief from the higher courts till date.
Kaira urges Jathedar, although you should have taken the decision to excommunicate Bibi Jagir Kaur from the Sikh Panth in March 2012 itself when she was sentenced to 5 years jail, but they say it is never too late to take a good principled decision.
In case you fail to take equal and impartial stringent action against Bibi Jagir Kaur as per Sikh traditions, people will loose confidence in the glorious institution of Akal Takhat Sahib headed by you, Khaira added in letter.
