Chandigarh: Taking a dig at the Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal for tendering an unconditional apology to Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Punjab Congress vice president Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today asked him as what was the haste and hurry in beating such a shameful retreat, when the investigations were going on and the court was yet to pronounce its judgement.
At the same time, Randhawa reiterated his allegations against Majithia saying that Kejriwal’s apology does not exonerate him of the crime of patronising and promoting drug trade in Punjab and he already stood guilty in people’s court.
Reacting to Kejriwal’s apology to Majithia, Randhawa observed, the Delhi Chief Minister should at least have waited for the completion of the inquiries going on into the matter before running with his apology.
Asserting that there was a nexus between the AAP and the Akalis, the PCC vice president pointed out, the apology was deliberately tendered on the same day when the Special Task Force constituted by Capt Amarinder Singh had submitted its report to the Punjab and Haryana High Court saying there was evidence on the basis of which Majithia should be investigated. This, he said, was done to divert the public attention from the SIT report.
“It cannot be a mere coincidence that Mr Kejriwal tendered the apology the same day when the STF after a year of hardwork had submitted its report in the court”, he remarked while adding, Majithia could not get a better defence than provided to him by Kejriwal.
Reiterating his party’s and the government’s commitment to take the fight against the drugs to the logical conclusion, Randhawa said, the Congress party and the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder stand vindicated in their commitment to get Punjab rid of drugs, while the parties like the AAP and their leaders stand exposed.
“Kejriwal’s timid apology to Majithia will make hardly any difference in the final outcome”, he observed while remarking, “but it has exposed the AAP’s double standards and established its nexus with the Akalis beyond any doubt”.
Reiterating his charges against Majithia, Randhawa said, “I am a Congress MLA and I have no hesitation to say that Majithia is involved in drugs. I brought up the issue initially in 2015. Then AAP built its entire campaign around it. The people of Punjab know Majithia is involved in drugs. Our government is working in tandem with the high court to do reach to the bottom of the matter”.
“I don’t know if Kejriwal is scared or he has taken money. But he has definitely backstabbed the people of Punjab”, he said.
