Jalandhar: Justice Ranjit Singh (Retd.) Commission of Inquiry constituted by the Punjab government to enquire into incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, Srimad Bhagwat Gita and Holy Quran Sharif in the state begins its visit in the district for two days March 14-15 to probe into the cases of desecration.
Starting its tour on March 14, the Commission first visited Beant Nagar in Rama Mandi Police station at 10:30 am followed by Ganga Mata Gali under Rama Mandi Police station. The Commission would also visit village Khakhi (Rama Mandi Police Station), village Ghurial (Adampur Police Station) and village Khurdpur (Adampur Police station). On March 15th the Commission would visit Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, New Gobind Nagar (Police Division Number 8) and Sher Singh Colony (Basti Bawa Khel Police Station). The Commission would be visiting these places to probe the incidents of sacrilege.
During its visit the Commission would minutely record the statements of the witnesses and enquiry officers regarding the incidents of desecration. Pertinently, the Commission constituted by the Punjab government vide notification no. 7/213/2013-3H4/1415 dated April 14, 2017 to probe into incidents of sacrilege in the state. Around 16 cases of sacrilege of holy texts were reported in the district in the past.
