Jalandhar, January 22: Taking a step forward towards providing the benefits of various social welfare schemes of the state government to the eligible beneficiaries under Mahatama Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY), the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today handed over the cards of online registration to Building construction workers for availing these schemes.
It may be recalled that the district administration has registered around 1122 such eligible beneficiaries under this scheme.
Handing over the cards to them, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was a momentous occasion as these people who play an important role in construction of buildings was being recognized by the state government today. He said that these cards would enable the construction workers to avail a number of facilities offered by the state government to them. Mr. Sharma asked more and more construction workers to get themselves registered online so that they could avail these services offered by the state government.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the process of online registration was very simple and it could be submitted online by the worker after attestation of Municipal Councilor/ Sarpanch of the village. He said that this would be followed by a payment of lifetime fee of Rs 25 at Sewa Kendra and then by the verification by Labour inspector. He till now Rs 38.44 crore has been disbursed to the construction workers under various schemes of the state government. Sharma said that this card offers a number of services to the construction including Shagun scheme for their daughters, Leave Travel Cash (LTC) allowance, scholarship scheme for their wards, financial assistance to the construction workers or their family members for aids like spectacles, dentures or hearing aids, ex-gratia grant in case of death, scholarship for skill upgradation or vocational education and others.
On the occasion, Assistant Labour Commissioner Sukhjinder Singh said that this scheme was proving to be a boon for the skilled workers.
On the occasion Labour Enforcement officers including Balwinder Singh, Gurtej Singh and Chandan Gill were also present.
