Mohali, 8 October(Wishav Warta): The bail plea of industrialist Jagjit Singh Chahal in money laundering case was dismissed by a Mohali court, Special CBI Judge-cum-designated judge under PMLA SS Mann denied bail to Chahal. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from outside the Mohali court on May 16. His bail plea was rejected after special prosecutor for ED Jagjit Singh Sarao put on record that the regular bail application moved by four other accused in the case had been rejected by the Supreme Court and the Punjab and Haryana high court. special prosecutor Jagjit Singh Sarao opposed the bail plea. He said it was a serious offence.
The defence had attached 4,000 pages, along with the bail application, and provided a justification for the sources of income. Jagjit was denied bail under Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PML).
Jagjit Singh Chahal is one of the key accused in multi-crore drug racket allegedly being run by cop-turned-drug lord Jagdish Singh Bhola. Chahal owner of a pharmaceutical unit in Amritsar, is accused of having raised assets worth several crores. As per the ED case, Chahal was booked by the Punjab Police after the authorities had busted a drug racket in which a number of cases were registered under the NDPS, IPC and Arms Act.
