Jalandhar, 27 September(Wishav Warta): With a twin motive of imparting skill training to youth of the state on one hand and checking the trend of illegal migration amongst them on the other hand, the Punjab Government would soon set up an International Skill Training Centre in one of the Multi Skill Development centres (MSDC) in the state with the British collaboration.
A decision to this effect was taken during the visit of an international delegation to take stock of the Skill training being imparted in the Multi Skill Development Centre being run here. The delegation, accompanied by Advisor to the Punjab government on Skill Development Dr Sandeep Singh Kaura, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhupinder Singh, took the round the entire campus in the centre and had detailed interaction with the students.
During the visit the delegation comprising Regional Manager City and Guilds London Mr. Tony Degazon, Director and CEO International Centre for Culinary Arts Mr. Sunjeh Raja, MD and Director Chill Air Academy Mr. Paul Singh, MD and Director AK Snathe Skills Training Mr. Raaj Singh, Manager Operations Chill AirInternational Hosmeet Singh and Head of Business City and Guilds Rajat Khawas, evinced keen interest in training the youth aspiring to go abroad as per the international standards so that a pool of skilled manpower could be created in the state. The visiting delegation emphasized on need for setting up One Stop Skilling Solution for better training and performance of the youth aspiring to go abroad. The delegation members were unanimously of the view that since Punjab was having abundant of innovative and energetic youth, so this centre could be very effective in producing skilled youth for working abroad.
They said that since Doaba was the NRI belt of the state, so such centre would be very successful if it was set up preferably in Doaba region of the state. The delegation apprised the Deputy Commissioner that if the international centre was set up in Jalandhar then it would act as a complement and supplement the existing centre in the city. They said that as per the proven track record Punjabi youth was hard working and resilient, which could prove to be a boon for any country.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the idea behind setting up an international centre here in the city was to assure that the youth desirous of moving to abroad could get a legal channel to migrate. He said that this initiative would check the practice of illegal migration on one hand and give boost to the technical training on the other. Sharma said that this endeavor was a brain child of the state government to provide skilled training to the youth of the state to cope up with the needs of the industry at the international level.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a Memorandum of Understanding regarding this was signed by the Punjab Government with the British High Commission, a few months back. He said that this would ensure that the youth desirous of earning their livelihood could get the jobs abroad via legal route. Sharma said that it was a path breaking initiative that would realize the dreams of Punjabi youth to live a life of dignity and pride abroad.
On the occasion Director of the MSDC KJS Pannu informed the delegation about the courses being offered by the Centre to the students. He said that currently students were being imparted technical training in CNC, Leather, Customer Care Executive, General Duty Assistant, Beauty Therapist, Assistant Electrician, Stitcher andCustomer Relationship Manager.
