Chandigarh: Giving a relief to Punjab former DGP Sumedh Saini, Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab government to give a week’s notice to former DGP, in case if police propose to arrest him in any case.
Saini had moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday against findings of Justice Ranjit Singh Commission’s report concerning him.
The Bench of Justice GS Gill also issued notice to the state government on Saini’s plea that if there is any case against him, this may please be handed over to the CBI or any other independent agency over which the state government does not have any influence.
The Bench fixed November 28 as the next date of hearing when the government will file reply to the notice.
Justice Ranjit Singh (retd) commission had held Saini responsible for firing at Sikhs in Kotkapura against the sacrilege incidents.
