Chandigarh, June 4:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and the Administrator U.T. Chandigarh called a meeting today to discuss the commissioning of augmentation of water supply scheme Chandigarh Phase V & VI.
The meeting was attended by Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary Home U.T., Sh. Venu Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Punjab, Sh. J.M. Balamurugan, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor of Punjab, Sh. K.K Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Sh. Ajoy Sharma, IAS, C.A. GMADA, Sh. Karan Singh, ADRM (Ambala) Sh. Manoj Bansal Chief Engineer M.C., Sh. Sunil Kansal, Chief Engineer GMADA and Sh. Bajrang Goel, Senior Divisional Engineer , Railway ( Ambala).
During the meeting, the Commissioner, MCC Sh. K.K. Yadav, explained that the work of augmentation of Kajauli Water Supply Scheme against phase V & VI to bring 35 MGD of raw water to the city Chandigarh is nearing completion. After the commissioning of this scheme Chandigarh will get 29 mgd additional water while Panchkula and Chandimandir cantonment each will get 3 mgd additional water.
The Commissioner said that the work from Kajauli upto Jandpur has been carried out by GMADA as a deposit work for Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The total estimated cost for the project is approx. Rs. 200 crore, out of which 50% cost amounting to Rs. 98.00 crore was deposited by the M.C.Chandigarh with GMADA in the year 2015.
He explained that the pumping station work at village Jandpur to Sector – 39 Water works Chandigarh has been executed by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh on a piece of land measuring 2 acres which has already been acquired by GMADA. Payment of Rs. 3.00 crore has been paid to GMADA for this piece of land. 1500 mm dia pipeline of length 6 kms has been laid from Jandpur to Water Work Sector – 39, Chandigarh. 2200 mm i/d MS pipe of 22 kms has been laid by GMADA from Kajauli to Jandpur. In this alignment two railway tracks have been crossed for laying the pipeline from Kajauli to Jandpur. One at village Marauli (Punjab) and second near new railway station Morinda (Punjab).
The Commissioner further told that the work of laying of pipeline under railway tracks has been done by the Railway Department under the office of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ambala as a deposit work of GMADA. The GMADA has deposited Rs. 3.9 crore to railways for these two nos. crossings. After the completion of work, GMADA started the trial run of pumping of water from Kajauli but it was observed that the pipeline laid by Railway Department under the railway track near village Marauli (Punjab) has leaked and the joints have opened. Due to these leakages, the water could not be pumped from Kajauli, he explained.
ADRM (Additional Divisional Railway Manager) Sh. Karan Singh, explained that he has visited the site today alongwith Railway, GMADA and MCC engineers. He assured that the work of repair of line will be completed by 10 days.
The Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh directed the railway authorities to complete the work of repair of pipeline within the time as promised by them as the residents are suffering from shortage of water supply. He also directed them to check other joints so that possibility of leakage be avoided in other joints. He expressed his concern about the repair work’s future sustainability also. He directed that this repair work should be strong enough to avoid any future problems.
He also directed GMADA and MCC Engineers to regularly co-ordinate with railway authorities so as to ensure early completion of work. A team has been constituted under the chairmanship of Divisional Railway Manager Ambala including Additional DRM, Senior Divisional Engineer Ambala, Chief Engineer, GMADA and Chief Engineer M.C. as members to monitor the progress of work on day to day basis. DRM (Ambala) will submit daily report regarding progress of work to the Governor.
