Jalandhar, January 8: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today envisioned that celebrating traditional festivals like Lohri with a new twist in form of ‘Dhian Di Lohri’ could be very instrumental in further improving sex ratio in the district.
Addressing the gathering during Dhian Di Lohri organized by Ann Jal Sewa Trust here today at Sanjhi Rasoi in local civil hospital, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was all the more important to create a mass awakening amongst the masses against the menace of female foeticide thereby empowering the women. He said that such functions were the need of the hour to ensure that girl child could live their lives with dignity and pride thereby immensely contributing for the socio – economic development of the state in general and district in particular. Sharma said exhorted all the people to enthusiastically participate in such functions to ensure the well being of girl.
Hailing the initiative taken by Ann Jal Sewa Trust to felicitate the families with new born second daughter, the Deputy Commissioner said that it would go a long way in ensuring holistic development of girl child. He said that the traditional festivals and social gatherings must be celebrated in such a manner so that it disseminates a great message to the masses. Sharma said expressed hope that people would also replicate such initiatives back at their homes to ensure well being of girl child.
In his address Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh also hailed the initiative taken by the Ann Jal Sewa Trust for celebrating this traditional festival in a new light.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also felicitated the parents of new born second girl child.
