Chandigarh, 26 September(Wishav Warta): The Punjab Government has a single pointed agenda that pertains to the overall development of every sphere in each constituency so as to provide all amenities to every section of the people. It is in keeping with this progress centric ideology that the Local Government Department has today appointed officers in charge of 4 Municipal Corporations and 28 Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats whose term has expired recently.
Disclosing this here today at Municipal Bhawan during an interaction with the media persons, the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the main focus of the department is not to let the development works hampered till the MC elections which would most probably be held by the year-end. He also batted for adopting innovative methodologies such as harnessing the Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) to use their water for the irrigational purposes. The minister further said that the vision depicting initial 2-year roadmap of the progress-oriented works would also be outlined soon.
As per the list of the appointed officers, the charge of Municipal Corporation Patiala has been entrusted to the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Patiala while the charge of Municipal Corporations in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar have been given to the Commissioners of the respective Municipal Corporations.
As per newly chalked out formula, the wards in Municipal Corporation Amritsar have been increased to 85, Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, Patiala and Ludhiana have been increased to 80, 60 and 95 respectively. On the Occasion, Pargat Singh, MLA, Dr. Amar Singh, Advisor, Local Government and Satish Chandra, Additional Chief Secretary were also present.
