Jalandhar(Wishav Warta): Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that for giving further fillip to the lifting of grains from the district, five special trains have been deployed in Jalandhar by the Railway Ministry after the request of the state government.
Presiding over a meeting of the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officers of the procurement agencies here at his office to review the procurement operations in Jalandhar, the Deputy Commissioner said that around 12500 metric ton of wheat procured from the mandis would be transported through these trains. He said that four special trains have been sanctioned from Phillaur, which would cover, the grain markets of Phillaur, Apra, Mao Sahib and Partapura. Likewise, Sharma said that one special train has been sanctioned from Nurmahal to cover the mandis of Bilga, Kot Badal and Samrai.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the entire procurement and lifting operation was going on in a smooth and hassle free manner. He said that during the ongoing Rabi season, the district administration has till April 25 procured 405302 metric ton of the wheat in the various grain markets/ mandis of the Jalandhar. Sharma further said that out of 316878 metric ton wheat purchased till April 23, 184931 metric ton has been lifted so far.
Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner said that so far payment worth Rs 547.77 crore has been made to the farmers. Meanwhile, Sharma asked the SDMs to personally supervise the operation in the markets in their jurisdiction. He said that all out efforts must be made to facilitate the farmer for selling their golden harvest.
