SAS Nagar: The district administration would organize a function on May 29 to award Debt Relief certificates to farmers of district SAS Nagar at Shivalik Public School, Phase 06 under the Debt Relief Scheme of Punjab Government. While disclosing information about the event, Deputy Registrar Amarjit said that the Animal husbandry, Dairy development and Labour minister Balbir singh sidhu would be the chief guest of the function. He said that earlier, Punjab Government has provided relief to as many as 4052 Marginal farmers of the district worth Rs. 37.6 crores and till the end of May 1527 marginal farmers would get the benefit worth Rs 14.38 crores.
Deputy Registrar said that under the first phase of debt relief scheme, Punjab Government was waiving the loan of marginal farmers availed from Cooperative Societies and in the second phase of the scheme, which would start from june 01, the small farmers owning 2.5 to 5 acres would be benefited. He assured the famers that under the Debt Relief Scheme, the Government was committed to waive off the loan of every eligible farmer.
Deputy Registrar said that 14831 farmers of the district were identified, having debt of 158 crores. Their details have been uploaded on U.I.D portal and after the multiple verifications the process of transferring the relief amount was going on. Till now 4052 marginal farmers have been facilitated with the relief amounting to Rs. 37.6 Crores and till May 31 total of 1527 marginal farmers would be given the benefit of the scheme.
