Jalandhar(Wishav Warta): In order to facilitate the people to get themselves enrolled as voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for door-to-door survey of the voters to be conducted by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) till December 15.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that as per the instructions of the ECI the BLOs would carry on the door-to-door survey of the voters till December 15 (Friday) to enable more and more number to get registered as voters. He said that Election Commission of India has started Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Photo electoral roll for Lok Sabha/ Vidhan Sabha assembly segments for the left out eligible voters for which BLOs had conducted door to door survey from today November 15-30. However, Mr. Sharma said that keeping in view the huge demand of people for this survey, the ECI has now decided to extend it to December 15.
Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner said that the claims and objections for the draft publication of rolls could also be filed upto December 15 at the concerned polling booths or the offices of the Registration Officers/ Assistant Registration Officers. Sharma said that earlier date for receiving objections/ claims was from November 15 to December 14 adding that on November 19 and November 26 (bothSunday) special camps were organized at booth levels for receiving claims and objections. He said that forms for all claims and objection would be available free of cost at the offices of Registration Officers/ Assistant Registration Officers.
The Deputy Commissioner said that BLOs would go door to door till December 15 to collect information of eligible voters in format I to VIII regarding enrolled voters, NRI voters and information regarding the youngsters who would be attaining the age of 18 years as on January 1. Sharma asked the people to extend fulsome support and cooperation to the BLOs by sharing the relevant information with them. He also cautioned the voters regarding double registration in the electoral roll as it was a crime under Representation of People Act 1950.
