New Delhi: The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has urged the Vice Chancellor of the Delhi University to keep the sanctity of the accord signed between University and Dyal Singh College Trust Society during its takeover by the University which clearly mentions that it will not be renamed ever.
In a letter written to the Vice Chancellor as well as members of Executive Council of the University, Sirsa reminded them that it during the transfer of Dyal Singh College to Delhi University, it was agreed the college in issue will continue to be known as ‘Dyal Singh College’ as per the resolution dated 06.05.1976 passed on 11.04.1976 in the extract of Clause 12 which stated that “Whereas the University of Delhi has agreed to run Dyal Singh College at Lodi Road as a University maintained institution, it is resolved that the entire land measuring 10,568 acres on Lodi Road on which Dyal Singh College is built and which land at present belongs to the Dyal Singh College Trust Society be transferred to the University of Delhi in Trust without any monetary consideration.” He also reminded them that per the transfer deed dated 22.06.1978 between Dyal Singh College Trust Society and University of Delhi in the extract of Point No. 12 reads “It has further been decided by the University that the College after its takeover by the University will continue to be known as Dyal Singh College”.
Mr. Sirsa said that any move on change of name is a clear case of breach of trust by the existing governing body of Dyal Singh College by changing the college name by hiding the above stated facts. He said that it is conspiracy of of Sh. Amitabh Sinha, Chairman and Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Principal of the said college who sparked this unnecessary controversy despite knowing the facts that that till date all the records are in the name of Dyal Singh Trust Society.
The DSGMC General Secretary further said that it was known to all that Pakistan has decided to retain the name of the college in its country and intellectuals of that country are exhorting the intellectuals of our country to stand up for the cause. He said that this unwarranted move of Mr. Sinha has brought shame for the country world over and its credibility has been at stake in such matters. He said that educational institutions are supposed to teach moral values to the children and imbibe in them good qualities but this move has dealt a big blow on this mission.
Sirsa also reminded the VC that in 2014 in a communiqué it had admitted that it were evening classes not evening college which was running in college. He said that in the name of evening college a move has been initiated to divide property among two colleges under a deep rooted conspiracy. He said that this move also amounts to criminal offence as breach of trust and violations of norms.
The DSGMC General Secretary urged the Vice Chancellor to not to allow its renaming as it will be a big blow to the democratic fabric of the country and changing the name of Dyal Singh evening college is like negating his legacy and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
