Chandigarh: Strengthening the flagship programme of the State Government, Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister Punjab has approved the constitution of District Level Committees of Tandrust Punjab Mission, informed Mission Director, KS Pannu.
Giving details, Pannu said that although the Mission at the State Level has been institutionalized in the Department of Environment and a Mission Director has been appointed but to strengthen the Mission it was imperative to institutionalise it at the district level as well.
In lines with this, Chief Minister, Punjab who is also the Chairman of Tandrust Punjab Mission has approved to notify District level Committee of Mission Tandrust Punjab with Deputy Commissioner as its Chairman and Deputy Economic and Statistical Advisor as convener/coordinator of the committee.Notification in this regard has been issued by the Department of Sciences Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab.
The coordinator with the help of his already existing staff shall arrange and coordinate the activities and meetings of Tandrust Punjab Mission at District level under overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner. He shall help to review, monitor and present to the higher authority, the report of the activities and achievements of the District related to the Tandrust Punjab Mission.
The District level officers nominated as members of the District Level Committee (DLC) on Tandrust Punjab Mission include Chief Agriculture Officer , Deputy Director Horticulture, Civil Surgeon, Designated Officer of Food safety Commissionarate, Executive Engineer, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, Deputy Director, Local Government/Commissioner Municipal Corporation/ Executive officer of concerned Municipal Committee, Executive Engineer, PPCB, Divisional Forest Officer, Assistant Director, Sports/ Youth welfare, District Development and Panchayat Officer, Deputy Registrar, Cooperatives Societies, Deputy Director, Dairy Development, Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Superintendent of Police, (Traffic), Deputy Economic and Statistical Advisor (Convener),District Public Relations Officer, District Project officer, ICDP, District Education officer (Elementary) and District Education officer (Secondary).
Besides, the Deputy Commissioner has been authorized to nominate any other officers or persons or NGOs working for the objectives related to the Tandrust Punjab Mission in the committee.
This committee shall meet in first week of each month to take stock of the activities taken up by various departments with regard to achieving objectives of the Mission and to plan the activities for the respective month.
It is pertinent to mention that Tandrust Punjab Mission was launched three months ago with an aim to make Punjab the healthiest state by taking care of the quality of air, water and food and to ensure good living environment for its residents. The activities under the Mission have been on full swing and it is hoped that formation of District Level Committees of Tandrust Punjab Mission will further empower the DCs to customise the activities according to the local scenario.
