Jalandhar, 20 September(Wishav Warta): In order to dissuade the farmers from burning padding straw by making them aware of the new techniques regarding effective paddy straw management, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today spent more than two hours with the farmers in a field to demonstrate ultra modern techniques for this purpose.
The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by officers of the agriculture department visited a field in village Rahimpur near Kartarpur and personally saw the operation of Happy seeder, Rotavator, Paddy cutter cum shredder, Paddy chopper cum shredder and mulcher to ensure optimum management of paddy straw. He also minutely observed the mechanism of the harvester combines with Super Straw Management System, which he said could act as a game changer by helping the farmers in efficaciously managing the straw. Sharma said that these innovative techniques have revolutionised farming sector and the need of the hour was to use them for optimum utilisation of paddy straw.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the hazardous practice of paddy straw burning was causing irreparable damage to our environment and human health. He said that it was the need of the hour to do away with this practice for saving the environment of our state. Sharma cautioned the farmers that if this practice was not shunned today then it would pose a serious threat for our coming generations.
The Deputy Commissioner said that this practice was a fatal environmental hazard, which must be stopped immediately otherwise it would have a castigating effect not only on human health but also on our environment. He bemoaned that due to this practice along with excessive use of fertilisers the air, water and land of state were being severely polluted. Likewise Mr Sharma said that this practice was also very harmful for the health of our soil.
Exhorting the farmers to pool heavy agricultural machinery through the Cooperative societies and Agri Centres to reduce their input cost in agriculture, the Deputy Commissioner said that it would also help in maximising the profits of the farmers. He said that this would help in transforming the destiny of farmers by making agriculture a more profitable venture. Sharma solicited the whole hearted support and cooperation of farmers for checking the menace adding he said that all of us should join hands to eliminate this curse for saving our environment.
