Jalandhar, January 4- Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that envisioned that Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY) would act as a catalyst in ensuring the holistic development of all sections of society in the rural areas of the district.
Presiding over a review meeting with the officers of the district administration here at District Administrative Complex today, the Deputy Commissioner said that the sole motive of this MGSVY was to ensure that the needy people could get the benefits of pro-poor schemes of the government. Sharma said that under the scheme all debt ridden farmers, families with woman as head of family, the families who have lost their only bread earner, families with members suffering from serious ailments like cancer, families of Army martyrs, kin of freedom fighters, homeless families, school dropout children, families with specially able children, distressed old age people, drug addicts, families in problem due to natural disasters, unemployed youth above 18 years, children with malnutrition, sanitary workers, orphan children, transgender, acid attack victims, families living in slums and others were eligible to avail its benefits.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that for availing the benefits of scheme the income of family must not be above Rs 60,000 annually and the family should not possess more than 2.5 acre of land. Likewise, he said that the beneficiaries must be compulsorily a resident of the state. Sharma said that the district administration was on the verge of completing the survey in all the 900 villages of the district regarding this scheme.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that the scheme would ensure social justice and equality by improving the standard of living and quality of life in rural area. He said that this scheme was a step forward towards ensuring inclusive development and providing equitable access to benefits of all socio-economic development schemes to the most deserving. Sharma asked all the officers to ensure that the poor and distressed households which have been hitherto deprived of the benefits of the various welfare schemes duly get their benefits under the MGSVY.
