Gold Coast: Indian women’s table tennis team scripted history by clinching the first ever gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with a 3-1 victory over Singapore in the final on Sunday. This was the second time the women’s team reached a CWG final, having made its maiden appearance in the 2010 edition in Delhi.
Manika Batra recorded a hard-fought 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7 victory over World No. 4 Tianwei Feng to hand India 1-0 lead. Singapore drew level after Mengyu Yu got the better of Madhurika Patkar in straight games 13-11, 11-2, 11-6.
